On Saturday 30 March 2019, a lecture, titled “The European Moment – Brexit”, was held at the Centre for the Culture of Dialogue, Islamic Centre in Zagreb. The Centre for the Culture of Dialogue invited Dr. Šelo Šabić to speak on a topic of current European politics in the framework of the “Balkan Youth School – Croatia 2019” that the Centre organizes. In consultation with the organizers, Dr. Šelo Šabić spoke about Brexit and its effects on European politics and national politics of the UK.
The Centre for the Culture of Dialogue is a non-governmental organization founded by the Islamic Community in Croatia with the mission to strengthen and sustain interreligious and intercultural dialogue in Croatia and beyond. The Centre team sees value in introducing a broader specter of topics than initially envisaged when the Centre was founded. Apart from religious and cultural topics, they are planning to invite speakers on different topics of political and social relevance to promote dialogue, interaction and education.
Participants were very interested in the topic and a few stayed after the lecture to continue the discussion. There were more questions than planned time allowed and the organizers invited Dr. Šelo Šabić to return and speak on a new topic.
Dr. Šelo Šabić gave lecture in the framework of the EUlead project whose goals converge with that of the Centre for the Culture of Dialogue – to present, discuss and promote European values in Southeast Europe. EUlead is a Jean Monnet project which is funded by the European Commission.
